It’s not often I say this, but the movie was better.

This is a coming of age story about a young Irish girl who immigrates to Brooklyn, NY in the 1950s. The storytelling is simple and straightforward, and takes us through her experience of homesickness, love, loss, and discovering what she truly wants for her life.

When I first saw this movie, I loved it. I’d been meaning to read the book for awhile now, and I’m glad I did simply for the sake of comparison.
