This book tells the story of a man named Jayber Crow. From his earliest memories as a child to his years as a simple country barber, the pages are filled with rich descriptions of his life and the people in his community. We experience the comings and goings of Port William through his eyes.
This isn’t a book with a crazy plot. In fact, not much happens at all except the stuff of ordinary life. But sometimes hearing someone else’s insights about people and the everyday mysteries of the world helps reflects parts of our own experience that we couldn’t put words to.
My goal was to finish this book before the New Year and I’m so glad I did. It was a slow journey through a man’s life filled with bits of wisdom and observations about rural American life. It invites you to look a little closer at the world around you and see the beauty of a simple, quiet existence. Highly recommend if you’re looking to read something that will linger in your mind for years to come.
